The day has finally arrived, it’s time for your new kitchen, bathroom or bedroom to become a reality! While this is undeniably one of the most exciting parts of your project, we know it can also feel a little overwhelming. To help you through this step of the process, we’ve put together a simple guide explaining what happens before, during and after your installation, so you can feel confident, prepared and ready to enjoy the results.
1. Before Installation Begins
Once your new kitchen, bathroom or bedroom design is finalised and you’ve confirmed you’re completely happy with every detail, the next step is to start preparing for your installation. We’ll guide you through this process to ensure there are no nasty surprises when work begins and keep things running smoothly.
Confirming Timescales
We’ll agree on an installation date that works for you and give you a clear idea of how long the work is likely to take. Every project is different, but we’ll always aim to minimise disruption and keep things running smoothly.
Pre-Installation Survey
Ahead of the start date, one of our team will carry out a final site survey. This gives us the chance to double-check all measurements, assess access and make sure we’ve accounted for any technical requirements.
Ordering Your Products
Once everything is confirmed, we’ll place orders for your furniture, appliances, and accessories. We’ll manage all of this for you and make sure everything is delivered on time, ready for your installation.
Planning Access
We’ll talk to you about how we’ll access your property each day and agree where materials and tools can be stored during the project. If there are any special instructions (such as alarm codes, gate access or parking restrictions), just let us know and we’ll work around you.
2. Getting Your Home Ready
A little bit of preparation before we arrive is essential to keep your project on track and minimise disruption. Here are a few things to think about in the days leading up to the start date.
Clear the Space
Whether you’re having a kitchen, bathroom or bedroom installed, we’ll ask you to remove any personal items, such as crockery, toiletries, clothes, or furniture, from the room. If you need help moving heavier items, please let us know, as we’ll be happy to help. We also recommend removing any wall hangings from adjoining rooms, just in case they become dislodged by any drilling/vibrations from the installation work.
Temporary Setups
During the work, your kitchen, bathroom or bedroom may be out of use for a short time. It’s worth planning ahead so you have what you need. For example, setting up a small temporary kitchen space elsewhere. For this, you might want to save appliances like your microwave, toaster, kettle and fridge freezer and even consider purchasing a small camping stove. Likewise, you may need to make arrangements to use another bathroom in the house, or at a friend’s or family member’s home, or even your local gym.
Keep Children & Pets Safe
There may be tools, equipment, and materials on-site, so it’s best to keep pets and young children away from the working area. Our team will always work as safely as possible, but we do really appreciate your help in keeping everyone clear of the space.
Parking & Access
If possible, it’s helpful to have a parking space nearby for our fitters’ van. We’ll also need easy access to the property, so please let us know if there are any specific instructions we should follow on the day.
3. What Happens During the Installation?
Once everything’s in place, our installation team will get to work. We’ll keep you updated every step of the way so you always know what’s happening.
Step-by-Step Process
Every installation is slightly different, but most projects follow a similar structure:
-
Removal of old fixtures – We’ll carefully strip out your existing kitchen, bathroom or bedroom.
-
Preparation work – This may include plumbing, electrical changes, plastering, or flooring, depending on your design.
-
Installation – Your new furniture is fitted, and appliances or features are installed.
-
Finishing touches – This includes decorating, sealing, and any final adjustments.
We work cleanly and respectfully, doing everything we can to limit disruption to your daily routine.
Daily Routine
Our team will usually arrive at the same time each day and keep a tidy workspace. You don’t need to be on-site the whole time. We’ll agree upfront on how best to keep in touch. Rest assured, we’re never more than a phone call away.
Managing Mess & Noise
We’ll do our best to keep dust and noise to a minimum, but as with any building work, there may be a little disruption. Our fitters use dust sheets and protective coverings where needed and clean up at the end of each day.
Project Management
Throughout the installation, we’ll oversee everything, ensuring the work stays on track. If anything unexpected comes up, we’ll let you know straight away and talk through the best solution.
4. Common Questions
We understand that having work done in your home can feel like a big deal, especially if it’s your first time. Here are some of the questions we’re often asked before an installation begins:
How long will it take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the project, but we’ll give you a clear timescale before we begin. Most kitchens and bathrooms take between 2–3 weeks to complete, while bedrooms are often finished a little sooner. We’ll always keep you in the loop if anything changes.
Can I still live at home during the work?
In most cases, yes, especially if there’s another kitchen, bathroom, or bedroom available for use. There might be a few days where things are a little noisier or dustier than usual, but we’ll communicate clearly with you, so you know exactly what to expect and when.
Will I need to arrange other trades?
We offer full project management, which means we take care of everything for you unless otherwise agreed in advance. From electricians and plumbers to decorators and floor fitters, our team will coordinate the whole process, so you don’t have to juggle different contractors.
What if something unexpected comes up?
Sometimes, we uncover things like old plumbing or hidden issues once the work begins. If that happens, we’ll stop, talk it through with you, and find the best way forward. You’ll never be left in the dark, and we’ll never carry out extra work without your say-so.
5. After the Installation
Once your installation is complete, we’ll walk you through your new kitchen, bathroom or bedroom to make sure you’re completely happy with the result.
Final Checks
We’ll carry out a full inspection to ensure everything has been completed to our usual high standards. If anything needs adjusting, we’ll take care of it straight away. Your installer will also run through how everything works and answer any questions you might have.
Waste Removal
Any old furniture, packaging or leftover materials will be removed from your home, leaving the space clean and tidy. We’ll take care of the disposal, so you don’t need to worry. We even have our own packaging recycling facility at our warehouse.
Aftercare & Support
We’re always on hand, even after your installation is complete. If you notice something that doesn’t seem quite right, or just want some advice on looking after your new space, just give us a call. Our friendly team is here to help.
